YouTube testing video queue on Android, iOS: What is new and how to enable

[ad_1]

YouTube is always working on new features that are first rolled out to a small number of users for testing and then to the masses. Some of them are part of ‘experimental features’ that are tested by YouTube Premium subscribers. The Google-owned streaming platform is reportedly testing one such feature called “Add to queue.”
What are YouTube experimental features
An experimental feature in YouTube is tested by a small number of YouTube Premium subscribers. On the basis of the feedback by these users, improvements are done. It is like beta testing of a feature but unlike the actual beta testing process, ‘experimental features’ do not include multiple betas. Furthermore, these features are available for testing for a limited period of time.
YouTube ‘Add to queue’ on Android, iOS
It is to be noted that the ‘Add to queue’ feature is already available on the YouTube website and YouTube Music. It allows users to create a customised temporary playlist of videos and/or songs. ‘Add to queue’ on YouTube must not be confused with the ‘Save to Watch later’ or ‘Save to playlist’ features because these allow you to permanently save a video so you can revisit it later.
In order to access the feature, which was spotted by 9to5google, you can tap the three-dot overflow menu on each video. It will offer an option to ‘Play last in queue’. When users tap on the option, YouTube will create a queue at the bottom of the screen.
Users can drag and rearrange the viewing order or remove a certain video by swiping left. You can repeat as well as shuffle playback and if you close the mini-player, the playlist is cleared.

YouTube ‘Line up watch to watch’
There is another functionality called ‘Line up watch to watch’. Unlike ‘Add to queue’, ‘Line up watch to watch’ is advertised as a ‘Premium feature’ which means it will be available to only YouTube Premium subscribers. If you play something on YouTube, the video will automatically be added to the queue.
How to test the YouTube ‘Add to queue’
In order to be eligible to test YouTube’s ‘Add to queue’ feature, you have to purchase a YouTube Premium subscription.

  • Open the YouTube app on your Android or iOS smartphone
  • Tap your profile avatar in the top-right corner and open Settings
  • Tap ‘Try new features’ or you can also tap profile avatar and tap “Yout Premium Benefits”
  • Tap on “Try new feature” and you will see a list of features available for testing.

It is to be noted that since testing is limited to a small number of people, you may not see it in your list. Those who get the feature can test it until January 28. Not all experiments will end up going live.
